Hi everyone. I’m glad to have met you all through our FB webpage. I just turned 70, live in Wisconsin by the Mississippi River, had 3 sons, have 6 grandchildren. I’m presently helping one son care for his children. I would like to ask that you all pray for the return of my children and their families to the Catholic faith, as well as my “lost” friends and other family members. I grew up Catholic, went to Catholic schools, had about 3 years college, maybe four, but not in one place, so it was difficult to get the degree. I am pro-life, and a real Catholic, that is, I believe in what the Church teaches.ReplyCancel

Worn out mom of four who homeschooled for years before life got too crazy. Orthodox Catholic, not feeling very much like a powerhouse of prayer recently. Inspired by wee little examples of your daily reaches Heaven-word.ReplyCancel

Would it be possible to request a book review of a Catholic fantasy that was written to evangelize pop culture? It’s called League Of Angels and can be found as an ebook here:http://www.amazon.com/LEAGUE-OF-ANGELS-Thomas-Tan-ebook/dp/B00DV07Y32/ref=cm_cr-mr-img

Why bring this to your attention? Because beyond apologetics, theology and traditional Catholic literature, the truths of Christianity should also permeate pop culture. There are sufficient tomes written to inspire the human heart and mind, but not enough written to evangelize the imagination.

And yet, it’s pop culture that influences many people today, through comics, movies, and lifestyle choices. In recent times, Marvel and DC Comics caved in to social pressure and celebrated gay superheroes getting married in their storylines. Given this culture war, shouldn’t popular fiction also be redeemed by faith, dignity and holiness without losing the cool that makes pop culture so fun?

League Of Angels celebrates the wisdom of saints, the rituals of the Church, and the heroism of faith, and draws readers who might not otherwise pick up a Catholic book to discover the awesome coolness of the Catholic faith. In terms of styling and concept, this book straddles the mystical graphic world of comics like Constantine with movies like The Matrix, with the depth and intensity of supernatural faith. It also conjures a climate not too different from our own in its religious, political and cultural crisis.

I enjoyed it very much and thought it would be great if you could introduce it to more Catholics as well. Thanks.ReplyCancel

    Introduction
My name is Cynthia Hauris. I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as oldest of ten children. I am a cradle Catholic and was devoted to the Eucharist and Blessed Mother as a child. I became disillusioned with the adults in my life as a teenager and began to search for my own way. I ended up making a big circle that ended with the Catholic Charismatic movement. Jesus wanted to have a personal relationship with me and I with Him. I am not a mistake and I can find who I am and my destiny only in Jesus. In praising and thanking God for everything that comes my way, my misery is replaced with joy. When I forgive, I am healed. It has been a long, healing and wonderful spiritual journey with Jesus, Mary, Holy Spirit, Father God, angels and saints. I attend Mass and receive the Eucharist as often as I can. I find healing and hope in saying a daily rosary and chaplet and reading Magnificat, Bible, and other spiritual reading. I build community in Spirit of Love Prayer Group, Contemporary Choir and Al-Anon.
My husband and I have resided in Manassas, Virginia for the last 37 years. We have raised five children (Four of our children miscarried) and worshipped at All Saints Parish. I have worked as a registered dietitian and substitute teacher. We homeschooled for nine years and were able to give children good foundation. Our children are now grown and we have seven grandchildren. God is doing a new thing in my life as I daily renew my consecration to Jesus through Mary, and discern God’s Will for me as an empty nester.
My favorite author is Rev. Peter John Cameron who edits Magnificat. I also love the work of Michael E. Gaitley, MIC, Matthew Kelly, Dr. Greg Popcak and Bishop Robert Barron. I love Catholic worship music by Julie Carrick, Connie Salazar, Lynn Cooper, Donna Cori Gibson, Mark Forrest and Matt Maher. I listen to Our Lady of Guadaloupe Radio and especially like the shows Women of Grace, More to Life, The Doctor is In, Al Kresta in the Afternoon, Catholic Answers Live.
I keep a journal, but do not have a blog or website. I am very interested in promoting healthy lifestyles, recipes and the New Evangelism. I love to write about the Rosary and how relevant the mysteries are to the modern woman’s dilemmas. I enjoy reading Catholic Sistas!ReplyCancel
