Splendid Sundays

Did you know every three years we read nearly the entire Bible through Mass?

As part of our blogging schedule, we have agreed as a group that we will not be doing individual blog posts on Sundays. However, we do want to keep discussion going, so we will be posting about Mass and our obligations on Sundays. Don’t worry, we’re set to auto-post so we can enjoy family time, too. 🙂

Sunday readings hold different meaning for different people. Inevitably some part of Scripture or a certain place during Mass jumps out at someone, giving them something they needed at that precise time.

What was memorable for you today? Did the kids behave? Did you find forgiveness in something you had been holding onto for a while? Did you marvel at the Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity of our Lord, Jesus Christ? Anything of particular importance you want to share with us? We’d love to hear how Mass impacts your life.

  1. Started off my day with a reading from my Magnificat. Upon this rock! You go, Peter! During Mass, I had each child sit on my lap at some point. And I tried to explain the readings to their level of understanding. With my 6 year old, we talked about having a big rock to play on and stand on. I remember having a big rock to sit upon at my grandparents. It is still there and its very form and feel hold very distinct memories for me and my siblings, I am sure. My mother, too. She climbed on that rock as a child. Bill and I may even consider getting a big rock for the back yard with the engraving, “Upon this rock!”

  2. E was a little fussy at mass at times, but she cleaned up her act in time for her blessing and my receiving communion. Can’t ask for much from a three month old.
We went to a vigil mass on Saturday at a church that, if we move in late spring to that area, would become our new “home” parish. It’s a beautiful church that other things have clearly been built around it, and we even saw a bride getting pictures taken outslde the church, presumably before her wedding mass. It definitely brought back memories of when I was a bride outside a downtown cathedral waiting to walk down the aisle.
Going to mass at this particular church made us really think about a different angle to the building we were considering moving into. The building is incredibly close (walking distance) to hubby’s work, and this church is only about a block away from his work. We were hemming and hawing about the cost of the building (it’s an incredibly expensive place), but we realized that it was made MUCH more worth it since we could go to daily mass EVERY day TOGETHER because of its proximity to his work and this church. It’s made us lean more in that direction, with the idea to commit to going to daily mass on a daily basis to improve our holiness.
