Promote Planned Parenthood Alternatives

unborn baby

As your eyes water and your heart breaks while your news feed fills with undercover video after undercover video exposing the bowels of Planned Parenthood, I challenge you, our Catholic Sistas readers, to promote Planned Parenthood alternatives.

Promote adoption agencies, those you or your friends have used.  Promote low cost health care clinics people can turn to instead of Planned Parenthood.  And promote your local pregnancy crisis and resource centers.

Many good hearted Americans stand behind Planned Parenthood because they deeply have a heart for women in need.  We have that in common with them.  Yet, there are a good number of sincere Americans who fear that by taking away Planned Parenthood too many women will be left helpless in a perceived void.  Americans who do not run in pro-life circles are completely unaware of the network of alternatives to the giant and marketing genius of Planned Parenthood.

For every “like” of a pro-life post, promote Planned Parenthood alternatives.  Promote new ones, promote the same ones.  Share fundraising pages.  Share how your local grocer’s rewards program will donate money to the charity of your choice, and suggest a local pregnancy center.  Describe all of the services each center provides.  Promote organizations like Rachael’s Vineyard and The Gabriel Project. Don’t just passively like.  Don’t just aggressively fight. Actively promote!

Raise awareness and funds for the places where both the staff and company policy alike treat their clients body, mind and soul as healthy, cherished women.  Don’t let Planned Parenthood keep the spotlight.  Let’s heavily promote Planned Parenthood alternatives.

Planned Parenthood’s Chillingly Efficient Side Business: Selling Aborted Baby Parts

WARNING: This post contains graphic subject matter that may disturb some readers. Personal discretion is advised.

PPhoodBy now, you may have seen articles (even by mainstream media outlets) about a controversial video involving a high-level Planned Parenthood executive. The video, which is available here, shows Dr. Deborah Nucatola of Planned Parenthood’s medical services department describing how the organization works with companies that “order” fetal body parts. She admits that Planned Parenthood providers will even vary their techniques to ensure specific organs aren’t damaged during the abortion and says that certain organs are constantly in demand.

Planned Parenthood is, of course, insisting that the video was “heavily edited” specifically to damage its reputation, but several pro-life members of Congress are nonetheless calling for an investigation into whether the abortion giant is selling aborted baby parts for profit.

I watched the video; it is absolutely chilling to see Nucatola casually drink wine and eat salad in a nice restaurant while describing how it’s just a matter of crushing the right part of the unborn child to keep from damaging his liver, heart, and lungs so they can be sold to companies. According to Nucatola:

1. Planned Parenthood’s abortionists start the day with a list of desired organs. It’s clear from the abortionists’ specific procurement goals–“always as many intact livers as possible”–that these requests are coming from third parties.

2. The abortionists will often adapt their procedures to ensure harvesting success. Based on the list, they’ll “crush here, but not there” when aborting the baby, she says.

3. The abortionist tries to keep specific organs/parts from being damaged: “livers, hearts, lungs, lower extremities.”

According to Planned Parenthood, doctors only obtain fetal parts when patients request to donate their aborted tissue to science. I find it highly doubtful that women seeking abortions are specifically requesting that the abortionist work around their baby’s heart, liver, lungs, or (more gruesomely) “lower extremities” during the abortion. Or that so many women are asking for this that Planned Parenthood has such an efficient system in place to honor their requests.

pphoodIt doesn’t take a genius to read between the lines, either. Based on Nucatola’s statements, we can reasonably conclude that:

1. There’s a market for aborted baby parts. Disturbingly, there appears to be plenty of individuals, organizations, and companies looking for aborted fetal parts. So many, in fact, that Planned Parenthood execs needed to consult its legal department about whether it can openly serve as a middle-man without bad publicity.

2. This is a deliberate, planned, selective harvesting of fetal organs and parts. It’s not at all a case of someone sifting through the day’s tissue remains for undamaged organs that can be donated.

3. Late-term abortions are fairly common at Planned Parenthood. Think about it: For a child to have organs large enough to be harvested, it has to be fairly well developed; these are NOT very early, first-trimester “clumps of cells” being harvested here, but identifiable and retrievable organs. How else would they be able to meet the demand for “as many intact livers as possible” unless they’re regularly performing 2nd trimester (or later) abortions?

4. Planned Parenthood abortionists frequently ignore the 2003 federal law banning partial-birth abortion. Nucatola describes how the abortionist can actually turn the baby around so that it emerges feet first. With the body delivered but the head still in the birth canal, she then suctions out the skull to cause death. The benefit, of course, being that the torso is undamaged and the majority of fetal organs are intact for harvesting. Clearly, this is the partial-birth abortion procedure and it’s illegal.

Abortion proponents insist that Planned Parenthood is only harvesting fetal body parts and organs to ensure that what would otherwise just get thrown away gets put to good use. Just so we’re clear, Planned Parenthood:

  • gives its abortionists a daily quota of specific organs to harvest,
  • instructs its providers to alter their abortion procedures so the greatest number of intact organs can be harvested,
  • stores and then ships fetal parts so frequently it has regular purchasers of the items, and
  • charges $30-$100 “per specimen” for the harvested fetal parts.

All that is done for purely altruistic motives and NOT to generate more profit? RIGHT.

If you believe that, I have a bridge I want to sell you in Brooklyn…

Advocating for the Unborn: An Interview with Dr. Alveda King

alveda kingI was recently blessed to interview Dr. Alveda King, daughter of Rev. A.D. King and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She is a powerhouse in the pro-life community, working tirelessly to bring the horrors of abortion to light and to bring an end to the ongoing slaughter of millions of babies each year. She works with Priests for Life as the Director of African American Outreach. She is passionate about not only ending abortion but also for carrying on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of equality for all, including the unborn. Following in her father’s and uncle’s footsteps, she bravely speaks from her heart, stands up to the injustices she sees taking place in our world, and refuses to allow anyone to be denied their God-given right to life.

Thank you for taking a moment to read what Dr. King shared with me. Her words are a powerful reminder that there is still so much to do to end this war against the tiniest humans in our communities, against the women who bear them, against the fathers who love them, and against our family units. However, as you’ll see, Dr. King reminds us that with God’s love, forgiveness, and help, we can still overcome this scourge.

The Catholic Church takes a strong, unrelenting stance on the sanctity of all life. You are not Catholic and yet you work with Priests for Life. Why did you choose to work with a Catholic Organization?

I believe God directed me. My uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., during his “I Have a Dream” speech said that he had a dream that Protestants and Catholics, Gentiles and Jews would join together and would sing “free at last!” In that effort to join with every community of faith on the planet, I accepted the invitation from Father Frank Pavone to head up the African American Outreach to educate, inform, and activate the African American community as to the terrible scourge of abortion and how the African American community is targeted, specifically by the abortion industry headed up by Planned Parenthood, to reduce our population through the scourge of abortion.

A very dear friend of mine told me that for her, in the black community, abortion is just considered “taking care of business”. When she had her abortion, no one batted an eye but said she did what “needed to be done”.  What can we do to change this attitude so that the next generation of black families doesn’t continue to fall prey this belief?

slavery When we look at the scourge of abortion, we can go back many, many thousands of years, all the way back to the Old Testament when there was a battle between Sarah and Hagar; Sarah, the wife of Abraham and her son Isaac, the heir to the Promise, and Hagar, the concubine to Abraham, through Sarah’s agreement and arrangement. Sarah said to Abraham, “Take this woman into your bed and have a child so that you can have an heir.” But God had another plan. When human beings intervene in divine intentions there can be outcomes that are not beneficial. And so, with slavery throughout the years, you always had the wife of the master and the slave or servant of the master conspiring against each other, sometimes through jealousy. I know that’s hard to understand, but when you see an African American woman saying, “We just did what we had to do. We were taking care of business”, you look at what that business is. Often black women, slave women, would kill their babies rather than have them born into slavery. Often the slave master’s wife would say, “I’ll help you not have babies. We can abort your babies or we can sterilize you.”

That kind of thought has gone on throughout the ages, but now, here in the 21st century, the spirit of the abolitionist has risen again. Men and women of faith and conscience are saying, “We can help the mother, we can help the father, and save the baby. We can love the family.” And so, when we love a family, a woman no longer has to feel that in retaliation or desperation she must kill her child. She is now learning no matter what her ethnic group happens to be, that she is loved, the baby is loved. The father is learning that his seed does not have to be destroyed.

This is a very resonating message. It is tied into the faith and love of Jesus Christ in His shed blood, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.” In that message is also love for the family. Women can learn that they are loved and protected and their babies are as well. The father can know that he can guard over his seed rather than see it destroyed.

Margaret Sanger had a very specific agenda in mind when she founded Planned Parenthood. As she said, the goal was in part “the extermination of the negro population”. While Planned Parenthood denies that this is still their goal, do you think they still target the black community?

margaret sanger eugenicsI always wonder, and I say it all the time, “Who hurt Margaret Sanger when she was a girl; what happened to her that was so bad it caused her to want to kill little babies and maim women and disregard the seed of the father?” There are many who leave Planned Parenthood like Abby Johnson and many in a group called the Centurions for example. Centurions are former abortion providers- doctors, nurses, those who have run the abortion mills, and they come out and say, “We don’t want to do this anymore.” By their testimony many have admitted that the goal of Planned Parenthood is to kill and abort babies and to provide harmful contraception and sterilization procedures. It’s not only directed at the African American community through genocide, one of their other large population is college campuses, another is the Latino and Hispanic communities, and certainly to all women.

Interestingly enough, we have discovered that throughout the history of abortion, since 1973 with Roe Vs Wade, that often in the Caucasian areas where most of the clientele was Caucasian, they would sometimes offer opportunities to help those young ladies keep their babies, but with the African American women it was always abortion. We do know that this genocidal eugenics plan has been in place by the testimony of some who used to work for Planned Parenthood but who have now left.

Planned Parenthood’s Jaffe Memo from 1969 gave ideas and suggestions regarding population control. Planned Parenthood claims these were merely a list of suggestions and were never the policies of Planned Parenthood. Do you feel like we see some of these suggestions implemented in today’s society?

There is a global eugenics and genocide plan for those who have the wealth and human power to control the population to make an ideal world, to care for the planet, to care for the environment, and to have a smaller population and in their minds, a more worthy population. That is the goal of eugenic and genocide. Birth control and abortion are two measures that are used in these experiments, but there are many other warfare experiments- fluoridation of water is another one. So there are many plans to control the population and to take over the planet… but this is an age old plan, a human plan. There again, there is a divine plan where the love of God has enough provisions for all human beings.

Your father and your uncle fought so hard for equal rights for all people. Is this fight for unborn babies to be recognized as valuable humans with the same rights as those who are born the same fight as the one your family fought so valiantly? How do you think they would feel about this epidemic in our nation?

king brothersI know that if they were here today they would agree with me when I say that a woman has the right to choose what she does with her body, but the baby is not her body. Where’s the lawyer for the baby? It is possible to get justice, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in a family without killing our children. Mother Teresa had some of the strongest and firmest testimony on those accounts. We all know that Mother Teresa dedicated her adult life to caring for the least of these and she shows us we don’t have to kill people to gain our own inheritance.

What can we do, especially within the black community, to promote the pro-life agenda and take a stand like Martin Luther King did for civil rights, when we have the Margaret Sangers of the world working in direct opposition to us?

First, I always pray for the Margaret Sangers of the world- their spirits, their hearts, and their lives must have been wounded terribly to cause them to make these terrible and lasting decisions. There’s a more lasting opportunity, through Christ and His love for us, to reach out and help others. I forgive Margaret Sanger, I forgive the doctor who did my first abortion and I forgive Planned Parenthood. Certainly I stand against the heinous agendas, those agendas are wrong, they can and must be exposed, but in working in prayer and in love, the bible says that when we pray we must forgive as our Heavenly Father forgives us. So as we forgive we move forward with the understanding that abortion kills a baby, harms a mother, robs a father of a birthright, and so hurts societies and hurts communities but we ask God to guide us out of this heinous scourge into Truth.

As Christians it is our duty to protect all life, from the moment of conception to natural death, do you have any suggestions that can help us uphold God’s laws in terms of upholding the sanctity of life?

We have an election year in November of this year and next year. As we move forward we must vote as Godly, Christian people, and if we will agree to do that we will find that we can elect men and women of good character. If we are able to do that we certainly see that we can begin to contribute by our prayers, our votes, our actions, and our support of the Bible… all those things as Christians that we have to do.

If you would like to read more from Dr. Alveda King you can follow her on her blog at Priests for Life.

Dr. King hoped this interview would be published before Election Day so she could encourage us to vote for life. She directed me to the following quote by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on May 17, 1957-

“Give us the ballot and we will no longer have to worry the federal government about our basic rights. Give us the ballot and we will no longer plead to the federal government for passage of an anti-lynching law; we will by the power of our vote write the law on the statute books of the southern states and bring an end to the dastardly acts of the hooded perpetrators of violence. Give us the ballot and we will transform the salient misdeeds of blood-thirsty mobs into calculated good deeds of orderly citizens. Give us the ballot and we will fill our legislative halls with men of good will, and send to the sacred halls of Congressmen who will not sign a Southern Manifesto, because of their devotion to the manifesto of justice. Give us the ballot and we will place judges on the benches of the South who will “do justly and love mercy,” and we will place at the head of the southern states governors who have felt not only the tang of the human, but the glow of the divine. Give us the ballot and we will quietly and nonviolently, without rancor or bitterness, implement the Supreme Court’s decision of May 17, 1954.”

Please, take your hard-earned ballot and vote for life.

Dispelling the Myths about Emergency Contraceptives and IUDs

I recall five years ago when I was working at a Catholic hospital as an RN, contraception was not covered by our insurance. Yet, none of the female employees realized there was a silent ‘war on women’ taking place. The women who wanted birth control were still able to get prescriptions from physicians not affiliated with the hospital and they bought what they wanted. We accepted that a CATHOLIC business had the right to operate according to CATHOLIC beliefs. Thanks to Obamacare, suddenly birth control was supposed to be 100% free and it was an attack on women’s rights to claim the right to religious freedom that had henceforth been taken for granted.

prescription 1

As a nurse, that ‘free’ part really gets me. If you want to give a medication away, how about one that has the potential to save millions of lives?

blood pressure medications,

diabetes medications…but, BIRTH CONTROL?

I never once cared for a woman who died as a result of having to pay for her birth control, but I did care for many who died because they couldn’t afford the above mentioned items.

Following the Hobby Lobby case when SCOTUS determined that the owners of businesses still do have religious rights, there was much anger regarding the forms of birth control that Hobby Lobby was morally opposed to. Contrary to the hysteria and misinformation, Hobby Lobby was not arguing that they did not want to cover ALL birth control. In fact, they did and still do cover 16 different forms, but they opposed covering four types of ‘birth control’ that they believe can or does end a newly conceived human life.

I would like to describe each method Hobby Lobby opposed as well as the information supporting the belief that these methods do, indeed, as stated by the manufacturers, end a human life – which would be the life created at conception – the moment the sperm fertilizes the egg.

Some might be muttering that conception does not occur until the fertilized egg implants in the uterus.  A little known fact might surprise you – guess who it was that decided to try and change the definition of conception from occurring at the time of fertilization to occurring at implantation in the womb?

This redefinition of conception started in 1959 when Dr. Bent Boving revealed at a Planned Parenthood symposium* that there was “the social advantage of (implantation preventatives) being considered to prevent conception rather than destroy an established pregnancy.” Six years later, ACOG (American Academy of Gynecologists) happily redefined conception, much to the delight of Planned Parenthood. Their argument is that since conception can’t be detected until implantation, it doesn’t exist. With that reasoning, cancer doesn’t exist until it’s detected either…right?

Dispelling the Myths about Emergency Contraceptives and IUDs

I will list the four types of contraception and provide manufacturer’s information to support that these methods include mechanisms which halt the natural progression of that fertilized egg. I also included information on some of the incredibly terrifying side effects of these methods. The source of information I used is basically ‘the horse’s mouth’, the FDA which gave the stamp of approval to each one of these methods. The website I used for the two drugs is from Access Data. All of the sources I used include manufacturer’s information on each drug which is similar, if not exactly, to what you would see on a package insert included with certain medications.

Plan B- Contraindications (to the use of this drug)-“Pregnancy or suspected pregnancy”

Plan BNow, I found this information interesting- the manufacturer states that ectopic pregnancies occur in 2% of pregnancies but in women who use this drug, ectopic pregnancies occur in TEN PERCENT of women. A five-fold increase. Now, that sure sounds safe!

Mechanism of action: [what the drug does] It states the primary mechanism is preventing ovulation or fertilization [Much like the majority of birth control pills] “In addition, it may inhibit implantation (by altering the endometrium). It is not as effective once the process of implantation has begun.

So, if the drug doesn’t work by preventing ovulation it makes the womb inhospitable to the fertilized egg, the new life will DIE. Questions? Sounds pretty straightforward to me. A little FYI- the active ingredient in Plan B is a high dose of Levonorgestrel. This same ingredient is solely present in lower doses, with the same mechanism in Mirena, Norplant, Opcicon one-step, Skyla, Fallback solo, and Jadelle. It is also present with other another ingredient in 39 other forms of birth control.

Ella: Contraindications-Known or suspected pregnancy

Warnings and precautions: Ella is not indicated for termination of an existing pregnancy. Exclude pregnancy before administering. (VERY interesting statement for a drug meant to ‘prevent’ pregnancy) Ella is also considered an emergency contraceptive, just like Plan B.

Mechanism of action: “When taken immediately before ovulation is to occur, Ella postpones follicular rupture. The likely primary mechanism of action of ulipristal acetate for emergency contraception is therefore inhibitions or delay of ovulation; HOWEVER, alterations to the endometrium that may affect implantation may also contribute to efficacy. (what else would implant in the womb other than a fertilized egg?)

COPPER IUD aka Paragard:

IUDI had to go to for this one.
Clinical pharmacology: (The way it works) “The contraceptive effectiveness of Paragard is enhanced by copper continuously released into the uterine cavity. Mechanism(s) by which copper enhances contraceptive efficacy include interference with sperm transport and fertilization of an egg, and possibly prevention of implantation.”

Has anyone else noticed that each one of the items make the
abortifacient effect of the drug/device appear to be a ‘oh, by the way…’

Contraindications: Pregnancy or suspicion of pregnancy.

Warnings: Intrauterine pregnancy: “the risk of spontaneous abortion (their word), premature delivery, sepsis, septic shock, and rarely, death. Removal may be followed by pregnancy loss.” It also goes on to say that an ectopic pregnancy is more likely when using this device. There is an increased ‘relative risk’ of pelvic inflammatory disease compared to other forms of contraception or no contraception. The IUD can become embedded in the uterus requiring surgical removal or it can perforate the uterine wall or cervix. “The copper of a perforated Paragard IUD can lead to intraperitoneal adhesions, intestinal penetration, intestinal obstruction, and/or damage to adjacent organs may result if an IUD is left in the peritoneal cavity.”

For more reading on intrauterine devices, please read here.

IUD with progestin aka Mirena: The mechanism of action as described here is interesting.

They basically say they aren’t sure how it works but – ‘the local mechanism by which continuously released levonorgestrel enhances contraceptive effectiveness of Mirena has not been conclusively demonstrated. Studies of Mirena prototypes have suggested several mechanisms that prevent pregnancy: thickening of cervical mucus preventing passage of sperm into the uterus, inhibition of sperm capacitation or survival, and alteration of the endomentrium. (Note that the drug in Mirena is the SAME ONE used in Plan B, the ‘emergency contraceptive’.) I found a much more honest explanation of how Mirena and Paragard work on WebMD. “The hormone also changes the lining of the uterus, so implantation of a fertilized egg cannot occur.”

Warnings for Mirena are virtually identical to those of Paragard which you can view in the PDF above.

As an RN and a woman, the risks of using chemical and mechanical forms of birth control like the IUD are absolutely unacceptable. Possible infertility, sepsis, fatal blood clots and death are just not acceptable risks to take in order to avoid pregnancy and be able to ‘do the deed’ whenever one wants. This is why Natural family planning is so fantastic. The effectiveness of NFP, when performed properly (no cheating, follow the rules) is 99%.  Every time this is brought up in the mainstream media certain ‘doctors’ and the general public cry out that it’s too complicated to do. I find that interesting since uneducated women in third world countries are able to effectively use NFP, but here in the U.S. women just aren’t smart enough?!? Yeah…right. I call that a war on women’s intelligence!

There is something I don’t understand about this whole Hobby Lobby thing- why they are not opposed to hormonal birth control when it contains the same mechanism of making the endometrial lining inhospitable to a fertilized egg? “The lining of the uterus thins, making it less likely that a fertilized egg can attach to it.”

That just doesn’t make sense. What does make sense is why Planned Parenthood wanted to change the definition of conception. When you look at the original and only true definition it becomes crystal clear that, with very few exceptions, the majority of contraception methods include the mechanism of being an abortifacient therefore, can and do end a human life.

*Bent Boving, “Implantation Mechanisms,” in Mechanisms Concerned with Conception, ed. C. G. Hartman (New York: Pergamon Press, 1963), 386. Boving acknowledged (p. 321): “… the greatest pregnancy wastage, in fact, by far the highest death rate of the entire human life span, is during the week before and including the beginning of implantation, and the next greatest is in the week immediately following.”
