Homemade Saint Bookmarks

home-made-saint-bookmarks

Have you begun your Christmas list-making yet?  In our family we like to challenge ourselves to make as many of our gifts each year!  And this year we are focusing on handmade gifts with religious sentiment.  For our friends and shut-ins we are making Saint Card bookmarks on burlap.  This bookmark takes minimal time to make and your younger children can help also!

1

Supplies you will need for this craft:

2-1/2″ Wired Ribbon.  Mine was a stiff burlap.

1-1/2″ Satin Ribbon

Holy Cards

Modge Podge and brush

Scissors

and a Hot Glue Gun and hot glue sticks (not shown)

2

Step 1:  Cut off your bookmark base from the 2-1/2″ ribbon.   I didn’t measure, but approximately 7-8″ long is ideal.

3

Step 2: Lay your 1-1/2″ satin ribbon on top and leave about 1″ extra length on either side.  Cut satin ribbon.

6

Step 3: Trim your Holy Card if necessary.  Mine was the same width as the larger ribbon so I decided to trim the edges off.

4

Step 4: Brush Modge Podge on the back of the smaller satin ribbon and set it in place on the larger ribbon.

7

Step 5:  Add Modge Podge to the back of the Saint Card and set into place.

9

Step 6:  Originally I tried to Modge Podge the ribbon tails to the back but it wouldn’t stick because of the fiber in the burlap.  So I got a quick dab of hot glue on each end to hold the satin ribbon in place.

And after some drying time you are done!  This bookmark is a lovely gift that your entire can help make and costs less than $0.50 each to make.  I think I will also make a wall hanging variation of this and include a saint medal on the top!  Are you making any Christmas gifts this year?  Please tell me about them in the comments… I would love to hear what you are making as well!
