Of Note–October 2019

Welcome to Of Note – A Collection of Orthodox Catholic Reading, a series dedicated to sharing great orthodox Catholic content around the inter webs!

Let’s face it, we are all busy, modern women and we just don’t have the time or the energy to vet or read everything the Catholic blogosphere has to offer. We have streamlined that for you and offer you the most worthy, relevant reads that will keep you informed and in-tune without wasting your precious time. Each month, on the first Friday, you can find Of Note filled with posts that are inspiring, knowledgeable, cover current events, and liturgical living.

We are continually looking for new and lesser known bloggers to feature here on Of Note. If you write a blog or know of one we should take a look at leave a link in the combox or email me at: OfNote@CatholicSistas.com

Let’s get brutally honest here. Are you team pumpkin spice or apple cider? Me? I’m a lover of all things that taste or smell like fall? On that note, let’s take a quick look around the web for some great inspirational reading.

Liturgical Living

Every year Lacey comes up with some of the best and easiest costume ideas for All Saints. Check them out on Catholic Icing.

Carissa of The Myth Retold offers some wonderful ideas for creating a sacred space in your home.

Several years ago Catholic Cuisine suggested making a cupcake rosary in honor of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. The idea took off and I’ve seen variations of it over the years. I think my boys would really enjoy this idea.

Hidden Gems

Catholic Minority Report has a story we should be very much aware of regarding a Transgender suit against a Catholic hospital. We are living in alarming times.

Leila of Like Mother Like Daughter writes a lovely reflection on what it means to be happy at home.

My beautiful friend, Ellie, writes so eloquently about sacrificial motherhood on her blog The Bleeding Pelican.

This one was too much fun not to post. This Ain’t the Lyceum has recipes for drinks to “take the edge off” the craziness of the back-to-school season. The described ailments and the titles of the mixed drink cures are hilarious–even if you are not a fan of mixed cocktails. I dare you to take a peek and not giggle a tad.

The Professionals

Have you ever heard of the novena to St. Therese and the promise of a rose from Heaven? I’ve known a couple friends who have prayed this and received roses mysteriously afterward. Philip Kosloski explores the tradition writing for Aleteia.

I’ve been following Ella Frech’s story for several years. She is an inspiring young lady and a wonderful role model. Her story was recently highlighted on Aleteia.

Father Paul Scalia gives an eye-opening reflection on holy shrewdness in this article for The Catholic Thing.

Author Leila Miller conducted a very intriguing interview with a tribunal judge; the first in a series on her fight against the culture of divorce.

From the Archives

October is devoted to the Most Holy Rosary.  Our Inkslingers have written extensively about the Rosary here on Catholic Sistas.  Here are a couple of my favorite Rosary posts from our archives.

The Obstacle. . . the Desire. . . the Rosary by Anni Harry
